Raymarine have done it again with a ‘touch of Genius’
Marine electronics and navigation guru, Errol Cain has supervised the installation of marine electronic systems into thousands of luxury cruisers in his 21 years experience. This month Errol shares his knowledge and experience on Raymarine's E-series Widescreen.
Ever the innovators, Raymarine have again leapt ahead of the marine electronics pack with the imminent release of the new hybridTouch E-Series Widescreen. Following on from the successful C-Series Widescreen launch some six months ago, Raymarine have gone several steps further than any other manufacturer to date with the new E-Series Widescreen technology.
Dual Cartography - Embedded with C-Map standard charts to start navigating straight away or choose between C-Map 4D charts by Jeppesen or Navionics electronic charting.
New display sizes - Available in 9", 12" and all new for Raymarine, large 14" wide screen including integrated anti-glare LCD with superior optics.
High speed Radar - Automatically engages for Optimum tracking of high-speed targets at close range.
Home screen - Personalise your favourite applications and screen combinations.
Key pad - There is a touch screen ‘QWERTY' key pad for quick and easy editing of waypoint and route data.
Radar - Dual range mode allows for close and distant monitoring. Targets are displayed on a new multi level 256 colour target display with five palettes. Also there is a new ‘Bird' tracking mode for the HD and super HD scanners.
Video - The new E-Series Widescreen comes standard with one video input just like the C-Series Widescreen, however there is an optional multi pin cable that allows for up to four video in sources and VGA output.
Autoroute - When using C-Map 4D charts, E-Series Widescreen will intelligently create a route for you. Place a waypoint at point A and at point B, then let the plotter choose the best route keeping a safe depth to arrival point. This new function will be available second quarter 2010.
MMI - The MMI (Man, Machine Interface) is very similar to all previous multi-function displays so anybody who has used Raymarine units before will be straight away at home with the new E-Series Widescreen series. There is the familiar five soft keys along the bottom or the option of the slick touch screen operation.
This is an impressive piece of navigation electronics with a touch screen similar to the Apple iphone. I am sure it will take the boating market by storm.
