Riviera takes luxury boating to new level with Volvo IPS power in 4400 Sport Yacht
The Riviera 4400 Sport Yacht takes luxury boating to a new level with its light weight yet robust hull construction and revolutionary Volvo Penta Inboard Performance System (IPS) propulsion that includes a joystick docking system, making this boat very simple to control and manoeuvre.
This has proved popular among boating enthusiasts with 70 of these luxurious cruisers already on the water.
The 4400 Sport Yacht design continues the indoor-outdoor character and sense of light and space introduced on the first award-winning Riviera 3600 Sport Yacht and carried on to the 4700SY. Exterior lines have been further refined to create even more visual appeal. Bonded glass windows each side of the boat are a striking feature and also creates a mass of natural light and sublime views from the interior.
Designed with the aid of the latest CAD software systems, the 4400 Sport Yacht contains a host of new innovations and technologies for both Riviera and the marine industry at large.
The hull has been constructed utilising infusion moulding technology rather than the traditional open moulded lay-up of fibreglass and resin. The resin is applied to the hull mould via an injection system and drawn through the laminate layers using vacuum suction resulting in consistent hull thickness, reduced hull weight and greater strength as a result of highly accurate control measures.
The 4400 Sport Yacht employs the Volvo IPS propulsion system with twin Volvo IPS 500 diesel engines rated at 370hp each. Twin Volvo IPS 600 rated at 435hp each are optional. The Volvo IPS system is an integrated system of marine diesel engines, steerable drive units mounted under the hull with twin counter rotating, forward facing propellers. This system offers easy handling and manoeuvring even in tight situations via a joystick control. Volvo IPS also offers up to 30 percent better fuel consumption than traditional shaft drive systems.
New style engine room air inlet vents are moulded as a scoop outside the side coamings giving the boat greater appeal while ensuring the engines are running at optimal performance.
The cockpit of the 4400 Sport Yacht is both spacious and functional with a wide lounge across the transom and a large solid teak table with stainless steel drink holders is mounted on gas assisted high/low pedestals.
A wet bar including solid surface top with sink and flick mixer is built into the port forward quarter of the cockpit. The wet bar features a stainless steel refrigerator as standard. An icemaker can be added to the wet bar to complement the fridge in lieu of the standard locker if required.
A large storage locker accessed from the swim platform is ideal for wet storage and fenders. An optional hydraulic swim platform lifter can be fitted for ease of launching and retrieving a tender. There is also the option of a built-in barbecue to the port side of the storage locker.
Interior space in the 4400 Sport Yacht feels very light, airy and spacious; large windows and opening out pillarless rear door and window offer an indoor-outdoor atmosphere. A huge electric sunroof slides open at the push of a button, further adding to the spacious feel of the boat.
Joinery throughout is the highest grade American Cherry timber, finished in multiple coats of high gloss polyurethane varnish applied by Riviera's robotic varnish system for a mirror finish.
A plush leather lounge with chaise runs the length of the saloon on the port side while the helm and galley are positioned to starboard.
A liquor cabinet with drawers is conveniently located forward of the lounge, below the entertainment system that includes an electric lift 26-inch LCD TV integrated with an AM/FM stereo, CD/DVD player with amplifier, sub-woofer and four speakers to the saloon with an additional two speakers and stereo remote to the cockpit.
The galley layout is generous and functional. It features plenty of cupboards and drawers, above and below bench for storage, as well as all the latest appliances including a convection microwave oven and a stainless steel front-opening refrigerator with a freezer compartment.
Air conditioning is standard throughout the boat with outlets to the windscreen to help prevent fogging.
The helm console is ergonomically designed so that all critical navigation equipment and controls are within easy reach. High backed leather helm and companion chairs are fitted, with electrical adjustment fore and aft on the helm chair while a high quality timber sports steering wheel completes the helm.
Moving down to the accommodation space, the Master stateroom is equipped with a queen walk around island berth complete with a quality inner spring mattress. Another great feature is the storage drawers under the berth as well as the entire bed being hinged and supported by two gas struts to reveal a large storage space underneath.
There is a large hanging locker to the starboard of the stateroom and fully shelved locker to port. Both are cedar lined to keep clothes smelling fresh.
Large pigeon lockers either side of a large mirror above the bed head add extra room for storage.
A 15" LCD TV and DVD package can be added to the Master stateroom and/or the aft stateroom as an option.
The 4400 Sport Yacht features two heads, one accessed from the master stateroom while the starboard has dual access from the companionway and from the aft cabin. Both feature solid surface bench tops with a contemporary style glass bowl sink. There is mirrored vanity cabinet above each bench top and a storage locker below. A frameless glass door divides the large shower stall with non-slip tile pattern floor from the Vacuflush toilet.
Riviera's designers have taken full advantage of the extra space available by using the Volvo IPS system in creating the aft stateroom with two berths and plenty of space; a single and a queen double athwartships. This two cabin/two bathroom cruiser, exudes style and is packed with all the modern conveniences you would expect from a Riviera, making it the ultimate in lifestyle-orientated vessel.
