Riviera took in its first apprentice in 1988 and launched a schools-based apprentice program in 1997. Since those foundations, the company’s training programs have gained such momentum that, in 2003, we won the Queensland Department of Education and Training regional and State ‘Large Employer of the Year’ awards.
This accolade was followed by the Australian National Training Authority’s ‘Employer of the Year’ award.
Today Riviera employs more than 800 people, including more than 160 apprentices who learn their trades on-site at Riviera’s industry-leading training facility.
Riviera CEO John Anderson has worked in the marine industry for more than 25 years and knows the value of a quality training environment to the future of boat building. He says: “Our objective is to grow young people to become talented, committed and successful individuals.
“As well as on-the-job training in a variety of skills from boat building to cabinet-making, engineering and electrical, we provide counselling and education of team building, dealing with conflict, budgeting, investing, relationships, dealing with set-backs – a whole host of life skills.”
Apprenticeship training
Riviera has enjoyed a period of continued growth while training and developing our staff to become Australia’s future boat builders in a vibrant and exciting industry.
The company offers both full-time and schools-based apprenticeships. Our fully qualified trainers work directly and indirectly with the Department of Education, Training and the Arts (DETA), and Australian Apprentice Centres (AACs) to provide formal on-the-job and off-the-job training at our on-site facility, supported by a program of mentoring and monitoring.
